Bug Fire Burns 44,000 Acres, Forces Evacuations in Nevada Near California Border

A fast-moving wildfire is burning across the California-Nevada border, and it’s forcing families out of their homes. The Bug Fire started Saturday afternoon in Lassen County near Highway 395, and it exploded in size quickly, going from 50 acres to 800 acres in just two hours. As of Tuesday morning, it has consumed more than 44,000 acres with crews only managing 4% containment.

The fire is currently threatening the Cold Springs community in Washoe County, Nevada, where mandatory evacuation orders remain in place. Officials have confirmed the fire is human-caused, though they haven’t released details about how it started. So far, no injuries or structural damage have been reported, which is encouraging given how fast this fire has grown.
