California Man Pulls Sword on Deputy After Revving Engine Complaint, Demands to Be Shot

A late-night noise complaint in Rosamond, California turned into a scene nobody could have predicted. On August 3, 22-year-old Joshua Dribin called 911 about a neighbor revving an engine at night, according to the Kern County Sheriff’s Office. When a deputy arrived, Dribin told him he was going to get his sword and kill the neighbor. He then jumped his own fence with the weapon, advanced on the deputy, tried to open the patrol car door, and repeatedly yelled at the officer to shoot him.

Bodycam footage shows the deputy firing three shots after Dribin ignored commands to stop. He was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and now faces multiple charges, including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. A Kern County review board later determined the deputy’s use of force fell within department policy.
