Caltrans Worker Killed in Suspected DUI Crash on Highway 50: What We Know

A construction worker was killed early Monday morning after a suspected drunk driver crashed into a Caltrans vehicle on eastbound Highway 50 in Sacramento. The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. near Stockton Boulevard, part of the Fix50 project. According to CHP, the driver swerved into the construction vehicle, which forced a crew member out and over the overpass. The worker died at the scene. Two other crew members were injured and taken to a local hospital.

The driver did not stop after the crash and fled the scene, eventually hitting a second vehicle. The driver of that vehicle pursued the suspect until he was apprehended and taken into custody. Authorities confirm the driver now faces DUI and hit-and-run charges. The highway was shut down for several hours while investigators processed the scene, causing major delays for the Monday morning commute.
