Chute Fire Update: Evacuations Reduced, 20% Contained Near Dobbins — But Weekend Weather Could Shift Things

Firefighters are making encouraging progress on the Chute Fire burning near Dobbins in Yuba County. The fire, which started July 13 near Chute Ravine and flared back up on July 20, has now burned 163 acres with 20% containment as of Friday afternoon. Evacuation orders have been scaled back and some warnings lifted as smoke levels drop significantly.

The challenging terrain — steep and rugged — has made this fire a tough fight for crews from Cal Fire’s Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit. However, the Yuba River is providing a natural barrier that helps create a stronger containment line. Fire crews also intentionally burned 41 acres to steer the wildfire toward areas that can no longer fuel the flames.

But officials aren’t letting their guard down. Elevated fire weather conditions are expected this weekend — including breezy gusts, low humidity, and high temperatures.
