After nearly four decades of serving Sacramento, Freeport Bakery is officially under new ownership. Walter and Marlene Goetzeler, who have run the beloved Land Park bakery since 1987, announced the sale this week. The new owner is Lisa Calk, who runs Ettore’s Bakery&Café in Fair Oaks. In a Facebook post, the bakery confirmed the news with a message that reassured longtime customers:“Same recipes, same staff, same name, and new energy.”

The Goetzelers built Freeport Bakery into an award-winning institution, especially known for intricate wedding cakes that have been part of countless Sacramento celebrations. For many families, picking up a cake from Freeport is a tradition that spans generations. The couple says it’s time to retire, but they wanted to make sure the bakery they built would continue in the same spirit. Calk’s commitment to preserving the bakery’s identity seems to be exactly what they were hoping for.

For now, it’s business as usual at the Freeport Boulevard location. The same bakers are in the kitchen, the same recipes are being used, and the sign out front isn’t changing.
