Willie Williams IV had just received an anxiety diagnosis when he came home with an idea that would change his life and the lives of countless other children. The Louisiana honor roll student and multi-sport athlete decided to write a children’s book. That book,“Brave Hearts, Big Feelings,”became his way of helping other kids understand and manage the anxiety that so many young people experience but rarely talk about. What started as one student’s personal response to his own struggle quickly became something much bigger.

With the support of his mom Jasmine and his sister Willow Grace, Willie didn’t just publish his book and move on. He co-founded The IV&Grace Foundation, a nonprofit focused on making children feel seen, heard, and understood. The foundation extends his mission beyond the pages of his book, creating a space where kids can talk about mental health without shame or judgment. At just ten years old, Willie is demonstrating what youth leadership looks like. He’s showing that vulnerability can be a source of strength and that sometimes the best way to overcome our challenges is to use them to help someone else.

As parents, educators, and community members, we can learn a lot from Willie’s example. His story reminds us that children are incredibly resilient and capable of creating meaningful change. It also highlights the importance of listening to our kids when they come to us with ideas and supporting them, even when those ideas seem ambitious. What emotional health conversations are you having with the young people in your life?
