Landlord Demands Tenant Share Her Home-Cooked Meals With His Family, She Locks Up the Pantry Instead

A 31-year-old woman renting a space in her landlord’s home says things took a strange turn after she stopped sharing her cooking. She has her own bedroom, bathroom, and living area, but the kitchen is shared with the landlord’s family upstairs. Her lease states his food is off-limits to her and that she’s responsible for feeding herself.

She once shared a batch of shrimp alfredo with the family, and they were thrilled. But when she made oven-baked salmon and cilantro rice and kept it for herself, her 44-year-old landlord sent a pointed text about his pregnant wife. He later suggested he would“reconsider the lease.”Her response was to keep right on cooking, add a lock to her mini fridge and pantry, and set up a Ring camera downstairs.
