A tragic story out of Oklahoma has the internet talking, and not in a good way. Social media influencer Sara Gilson, 43, was found dead alongside her estranged husband, Jeremiah Shawn Duffey, 48, in what police are calling a murder-suicide. Just days earlier, Gilson had posted a viral TikTok video accusing Duffey of being a pedophile. The video, which included the hashtag “#plottwist” and a joke about a Netflix documentary, caught fire online. But the real-life ending was far from entertainment.
Police say Duffey had been accused of molesting a 15-year-old girl on a youth basketball team he coached. Gilson had obtained a protective order against him. On July 11, dispatchers received a 911 call where screams and a gunshot could be heard in the background. A child later told the operator that his stepfather had shot his mother. Both Gilson and Duffey were found with gunshot wounds to the head. Due to tribal jurisdiction in Oklahoma, the case is now being handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
