In an unusual case emerging from Munich, a delivery driver saw his brief encounter with two barking dogs turn into a courtroom drama, leaving him off the hook for damage done to a Porsche Cayenne. The incident unfolded in September 2024 when the driver, startled by the barking Dalmatians and a crossbreed, jumped onto the bonnet of the luxury vehicle, resulting in over 2,700 euros in damage.

Surprisingly, the Munich District Court ruled in the driver’s favor. The court found reasonable doubt on whether the driver was truly responsible for the scratches and dents, especially since the photos documenting the damage were taken months after the event. The ruling didn’t just reflect on the driver’s panic response, but also pointed the finger at the dog’s owner, who should have controlled their pets.

As the court explained, while the barking triggered a flight response, it’s still vital for pet owners to ensure their furry friends don’t cause chaos for others. In a world where dogs can sometimes be a luxury and so can the cars they frighten! One can only hope those Dalmatians get a better handle on their neighbors in the future.
