Flying out of Sacramento International is about to get pricier before you even reach security. County supervisors vote Tuesday on a parking rate overhaul that raises the garage daily maximum from $21 to $28, a one-time adjustment of up to $7. Daily and economy lot rates would climb as well, and starting in 2028, travelers would see $1 increases every year.
The plan arrives alongside a new garage opening this fall that adds roughly 5,500 spaces near the terminals, plus a reservation system expected to charge $20 to $34 per day depending on the lot. County staff say current rates fell behind inflation and what other California airports charge. Travelers aren’t so sure the math works in their favor, pointing to crowded lots and shuttle headaches, and asking whether service will match the higher prices.
If the vote passes, the new rates take effect when the garage opens this fall, so anyone booking holiday travel from SMF should plan ahead. Public comment and the board’s decision happen Tuesday, and the meeting agenda is posted through Sacramento County.
