Manteca Police detained three people Friday night after shots were fired on the Manteca High School campus, not far from the winter gym area. The gunfire broke out around 9:27 p.m. while the school was hosting a football game against Cesar Chavez High School. Despite the crowd and the chaos, no one was injured.
Six officers were already on campus for the game, which meant police were on the scene almost instantly. That detail matters for a lot of local families heading into the weekend, especially parents who spend their Friday nights in those bleachers. Police have not yet said whether the people detained have any connection to the school, and the investigation is still active.
Manteca PD is asking the public to avoid the campus while they continue working the scene. If you live near Manteca High or you’ve got a student there, expect extra patrols and possibly more questions in the days ahead. We’ll update this story as new information comes out.
