SNL's Marcello Hernandez Dances With Old Sacramento Shop Owner: 'He Turned a Sad Moment Into Happiness'

Jessy Flores has spent more than three years building Mi Tiendita Munaycha, a Peruvian crafts, clothing, and food shop in Old Sacramento. It has been a grind. Foot traffic is slow, and import fees on her products have doubled from roughly $700 to $1,500, keeping the shop from breaking even.

Then Saturday Night Live cast member Marcello Hernandez walked in. The two danced together, someone captured it on video, and the clip picked up attention online. A few new orders followed. Flores says she didn’t even know who he was at first; now she’s a fan. She also says he turned a sad moment into happiness.

The visit doesn’t change her plans. Flores is still downsizing to a shared space in Carmichael and looking for another job. But for a shop owner grinding through a tough stretch, a stranger’s kindness landed at exactly the right time.

Have you visited Mi Tiendita Munaycha or any of the small shops in Old Sacramento? Tell us your favorite local store in the comments.
