The UK’s Office for Product Safety and Standards has issued a recall on counterfeit“Squeezy Dumplings”sold by Samsons Cash and Carry Ltd in Cardiff after tests revealed they contain dangerous levels of benzene. Benzene is a known carcinogen that can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation, and young children are especially vulnerable because they often put toys in their mouths or breathe in fumes.

So how can you tell if your toy is safe? Genuine versions have UKCA or CE safety markings, age restrictions, and warning labels. The counterfeit ones are missing all of that. The biggest red flag? A strong petrol-like smell. Trading Standards Officer Rhys Harries put it plainly:“When a toy gives off a strong chemical smell and is missing basic safety information, that should ring alarm bells for parents and retailers alike.”

If your child has one of these toys, check it immediately. If it smells like gasoline or has no safety labels, stop using it and keep it away from children.
