A Spanish pastry chef by the name of Marc Suárez has spent the last four months on one single project, and it might be the most extravagant wedding cake ever made. Built for a Saudi royal couple, the cake weighs a staggering 500 kilograms and stands 3.5 meters tall. It was unveiled at the Paris Opera Garnier, complete with 33,000 handmade sugar paste petals and a whole lot of white chocolate. The whole thing took about 1,800 hours of work, and Suárez couldn’t do it alone. He had to recruit friends, family, and fellow pastry chefs to lend a hand.
But here’s the twist that makes this story so wild: only about 0.1% of the entire creation is actual cake. The rest is hand-moulded sugar paste and white chocolate. In other words, it’s a monument shaped like a cake, with just enough dessert in there to technically call it one. The couple reportedly wanted it to look like a tribute to the occasion, not a typical pastry. And in that, they absolutely succeeded.
