Ages 40 to 85: Senior Softball Teams Compete for World Championship Spot in Sacramento Parks

The Senior Softball-USA Western National Championships have arrived in the Sacramento area, bringing 130 slow-pitch teams to local parks for a shot at the World Championships. About 40 of those teams are from right here in our community, representing cities and neighborhoods across the region. Players range in age from 40 to 85 and older, competing in both men’s and women’s divisions.

Anthony Hinojosa, a tournament director with Senior Softball-USA, says the event is about more than just winning. “Nothing better for us than as we age up to be able to still participate in this game of softball,” he said. “You run. You hit. The camaraderie is unbelievable because you meet people from all over the United States.” Winners from this week’s tournament will advance to represent the West at the World Championships in September.

The best part? Spectators can attend for free. Games are taking place Monday through Sunday at Foskett Regional Park, Maidu Regional Park, and two other locations.
