Bad Wolves' "Jolene" Cover Sparks Controversy After Dolly Parton's Passing: Tribute or Cash Grab?

Bad Wolves dropped their metal cover of Dolly Parton’s“Jolene”on Monday, and it’s already dividing fans. The band originally planned to feature Dolly herself on the track, but her passing on August 25th changed everything. Instead, the label pushed the release forward, and guitarist AJ Rebollo quit in protest, accusing the label of capitalizing on her death.

But Dolly’s longtime manager, Danny Nozell, has a different story. He says Dolly heard the Bad Wolves arrangement weeks ago and gave it her full blessing, even expressing excitement about the collaboration. To make things even more meaningful, all proceeds from the single go directly to Dolly’s Imagination Library, the charity that has put millions of free books into children’s hands over the years. New lead singer Sara“Killboy”Skinner delivers mostly clean vocals with a few heavy screams, making this a wild departure from the original.
