In the wake of a powerful January storm that toppled their long-time nesting tree, Folsom’s beloved bald eagles, Mama and Papa, are making a triumphant return to the skies. Their new home, situated atop another tree above Lake Natoma, offers an even better vantage point for eagle watchers and photographers like Mark Spicer, who have been eagerly capturing their majestic flights.
Kathy Kayner, part of the Friends of Lakes Folsom and Natoma group, witnessed the eagles settling into their new digs and couldn’t be more thrilled. “They looked good. They looked really good,” she said, full of hope for the pair’s future. The duo has a strong history, raising nearly two dozen eaglets over the past decade, and it looks like they may soon be on the path to parenthood once again.
As the couple continues to actively mate, observers and wildlife lovers are crossing their fingers that this time around will bring yet another successful brood. However, a friendly reminder comes from the California Department of Parks and Recreation: keep your distance to ensure these majestic birds remain undisturbed. After all, who doesn’t love a good comeback story, especially when it involves our feathered friends? Let’s hope Mama and Papa continue to soar through whatever challenges come their way!
