An alarming E. coli outbreak has struck, and it’s linked to something many people love: raw milk cheddar cheese. Seven individuals across California, Florida, and Texas, including young children, have fallen ill, and it’s making parents rightfully anxious. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has pointed its finger at Raw Farm, the California-based producer of the cheese, claiming it’s the “likely source” of the outbreak, despite the absence of any E. coli found in their products during this time.
The illnesses were reported between September 2025 and mid-February, and notably, over half of the cases involved children aged three or younger. Two individuals have been hospitalized, prompting the FDA to recommend that Raw Farm voluntarily pull its raw cheese products from the shelves. However, Mark McAfee, the owner of Raw Farm, has pushed back against the recall, maintaining that there’s no solid evidence linking his products to the illnesses, calling the FDA’s findings premature.
As investigations continue, it begs the question: how much risk are we willing to take for our favorite foods? The very cheese we savor could be the source of sickness, making us rethink just how much we trust our food sources. Remember, folks, a little caution goes a long way in keeping the cheese-board a safe delight!
