Ella Langley's "Choosin' Texas" Just Broke a Hot 100 Record. What That Means for the Grammys

Ella Langley just made history. Her hit“Choosin’Texas”has now spent 20 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, the longest run ever for a non-holiday song. That puts her past Lil Nas X’s“Old Town Road,”which held the previous record at 19 weeks back in 2019. The only song in history with more weeks at the top is Mariah Carey’s“All I Want for Christmas Is You”at 22 weeks, but that one only climbs to number one when December rolls around each year.

The milestone has people asking what this means for Grammy season. Nominations for the 2027 awards are set to be announced on November 16th, and Billboard took a look back at every past record-holder to see how they fared at the ceremony. Whitney Houston turned a 14-week run with“I Will Always Love You”into a Record of the Year win. Debby Boone spent 10 weeks at number one with“You Light Up My Life”and still lost the same category to“Hotel California.”It’s a mixed bag, to say the least.
