A Rocklin-based company called Innova Product Development has been selected to build two key subsystems for NASA’s Artemis lunar rover. The company will design a communication hub and a controller that ensures system redundancy, essentially a backup system in case something fails. The rovers are expected to reach the moon by 2028 as part of NASA’s plan to establish a permanent base on the lunar surface.
Innova was chosen by a NASA contractor after a multi-year collaboration process. Founder Cameron Spangler said the significance of the project is not lost on his team. “The history of it, the weight of it, does not go over my head,” he said. The company, which usually works on medical devices and aviation components, is now pivoting into space tech and is actively hiring three more engineers to support the project.
