Shania Twain Hilariously Blames Harry Styles For Missing Taylor Swift's Wedding

There’s a certain irony baked into the pop-country crossover success story—sometimes the very things that make you a star keep you from the moments you’d most want to experience. That’s the spot Shania Twain found herself in this summer, and she’s taking it in stride with humor.

During an appearance on CTV’s Etalk, the 60-year-old country legend revealed that she was indeed invited to what would’ve been the celebrity wedding of the year: Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce tying the knot at Madison Square Garden on July 3. But there was a scheduling conflict—one with a very famous name attached. Twain had already committed to opening for Harry Styles during his record-breaking 12-night residency at London’s Wembley Stadium, a run that happened to include, you guessed it, July 3.

“I couldn’t go because I was already committed to Harry’s shows,”Twain explained, with the kind of good humor that only comes from genuine friendship and perspective. The irony wasn’t lost on her—or on anyone paying attention to pop culture’s most tangled romantic history. Swift and Styles were briefly linked between late 2012 and early 2013, a pairing fans dubbed“Haylor.”Now here was Twain, stuck opening for her friend’s ex on the very night Swift was getting married.

But Twain made it clear that missing the event genuinely stung.“I would have done anything to be at Taylor’s wedding… that would have been really lovely for me to be there,”she said. She also joked that if Styles ever ties the knot himself, he’d better give her plenty of advance notice—and that she’d be more than willing to sing at his wedding if asked.

The wedding itself was every bit the A-list affair you’d expect. Swift and Kelce’s celebration drew hundreds of friends and family, including Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Camila Cabello, Karlie Kloss, Selena Gomez, Maren Morris, Greta Gerwig, Kesha, and Benson Boone. Comedian Adam Sandler officiated. Meanwhile, Styles was busy making history in London—his dozen Wembley shows set a Guinness World Record for the longest residency by a musician at the venue during a single run, surpassing Coldplay’s 10-night stand in 2025 and Swift’s own eight-night residency in 2024.

What ties all this together, beyond the scheduling mishap, is the genuine mutual respect between Swift and Twain. The two have been cheering each other on for years—Swift once called Twain one of the“queens of my heart,”right alongside Dolly Parton, back in 2021. Then in 2024, Twain returned the praise, marveling at how hard Swift“works her butt off.”When your conflicts come from competing success stories and deeply booked calendars, you know you’ve made it. And when you can laugh about missing your friend’s wedding because you’re breaking records opening for her ex? That’s the kind of grace that only time and genuine friendship can buy.
