Wheatland High School Closed Again After New Threat: What Parents Need to Know About AI Bomb Threats

Wheatland Union High School has canceled classes for the second consecutive day after another threat was received on Wednesday. Bear River Middle School also canceled classes after a separate threat. Law enforcement is on scene at both campuses, and no students or staff are allowed inside until a full search is completed and the all-clear is given. Superintendent Nicole Newman made the call to cancel instruction for the entire day.

The situation escalated on Tuesday when an AI-generated bomb threat forced a lockdown and a multi-hour K9 search of classrooms and lockers. Officials deemed that threat“not a hoax,”which raises serious concerns about how these newer, harder-to-verify threats are handled. To make matters more complicated, the school resource officer missed the initial 2:30 a.m. text alert because he was off-duty. That gap in response time left the district reacting in the dark for hours.

For families in the Sacramento Valley, this is a stressful and disruptive week. With back-to-back cancellations and no clear end in sight, many parents are left wondering how to plan for tomorrow. One thing is certain: the district is prioritizing safety, but the question remains whether the systems in place are enough to keep up with this new type of threat. How are you handling the uncertainty? Let us know in the comments.
