A hacker leaked the entire film online back in April, months ahead of schedule, causing frustration for fans and financial losses for Paramount. The alleged leaker, a 26-year-old from Singapore going by the handle ImStillDissin, said he did it to“troll a little bit”and didn’t think about the consequences.

The leak tapped into a deeper frustration. The animated sequel was originally planned for theaters, but after the 2025 Skydance merger, Paramount shifted it to a streaming-only release on Paramount+. Over 100,000 fans signed a petition demanding a theatrical run. The hacker claimed that corporate decision fueled his actions. Paramount eventually moved the release date to today and added a limited theatrical run. But the ripple effects continue, with the upcoming Avatar: Seven Havens series reportedly on the hacker’s radar.
