Tyler Perry Is Leaving Atlanta for Puerto Rico in 2027: "It's Time to Slow Down"

Tyler Perry is saying goodbye to Atlanta. The filmmaker announced on September 14 that he’s officially moving to Puerto Rico at the beginning of 2027, sharing the news in a conversation with TODAY’s Justin Sylvester. He said he wants a slower pace of life and more time with his 11-year-old son, Aman.

The news landed one day after Perry turned 57, and he admitted the milestone got him thinking about how he wants to spend his years ahead.“It’s time to slow down a little bit, enjoy more time with my son, and just take it all in,”he said. For a man who built Tyler Perry Studios on a 330-acre former Army base in southwest Atlanta, that’s a big shift. Perry has been one of the city’s most prominent entertainment figures for years, and his departure marks a real change for Atlanta’s film and TV footprint. He says stepping back doesn’t mean leaving entertainment entirely. His new film, Why Did I Get Married Again?, was shot in just four days.
