When a country singer cancels back-to-back shows citing illness, fans usually buy it without question. But the real story behind Bailey Zimmerman’s May 27 no-show at Sandia Resort and Casino in Albuquerque tells a much messier picture—one that landed him facing a felony charge and a misdemeanor that goes well beyond a case of the flu.
According to court filings from June 18, Zimmerman was arrested on a warrant stemming from his behavior that day. Authorities say the country singer appeared intoxicated during soundcheck at the amphitheater, stumbling and acting hostilely while throwing stage equipment. He left the soundcheck, returned to his hotel room, and canceled not just that night’s performance but Saturday’s show as well. His Instagram statement was vague:“I have not been feeling well and have tried to power through, but I am not able to give you all the show you deserve.”The resort told a different story. When staff tried to remove him from the property due to his conduct, Zimmerman allegedly resisted leaving via the bus the resort provided. Police had to escort him off.
But here’s where things escalated. Hotel staff later discovered significant damage to Zimmerman’s room—the television, phone, coffee table, and two chairs were destroyed, along with damage to the walls and stains on the carpet. The tab came to roughly $16,000 in damages. On top of that, the singer had charged over $400 in alcohol to his room, a bill that went unpaid. When the hotel couldn’t reach Zimmerman or his team to settle either account, they obtained an arrest warrant.
Zimmerman now faces a felony charge for criminal damage to property (over $1,000) and a misdemeanor charge for falsely obtaining services in New Mexico. His next scheduled performance is June 25 at the Country Drive Music Festival in Ashland, Nebraska—assuming the legal situation doesn’t interfere. Meanwhile, his song“Chevy Silverado”sits at No. 14 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart, suggesting his radio momentum remains intact despite the fallout.
