When Carole Radziwill agreed to return to The Real Housewives of New York for season 16, she probably expected the usual drama—clashing over brunches, designer bags, and vacation homes. What she got instead was far messier: a season-long beef with castmate Sai De Silva rooted in the infamous Epstein Files.

Here’s the awkward backdrop: Carole’s name appeared in the Epstein Files partly because she was once close to Ghislaine Maxwell, the notorious associate who became central to the scandal. Not only that, but Maxwell was actually the photographer who shot Carole’s author photo for her 2005 memoir. When Carole addressed the connection during a New York Times interview back in March, she framed it plainly:“Imagine knowing someone…and then they turn out to be, like, a monster.”Fair enough. But apparently, that explanation didn’t satisfy everyone on set.

According to production sources, Sai made it her mission throughout filming to grill Carole about her Epstein Files listing. Sai justified the confrontation by saying she felt compelled to speak up because she has children—a calculated moral stance that kept the tension simmering across multiple episodes. The two clashed repeatedly as the season progressed, turning what could’ve been a smooth comeback into a minefield of uncomfortable conversations and unresolved accusations.

Yet here’s the irony: producers were actually thrilled with how Carole handled herself. They brought her back because they wanted compelling television, and boy, did she deliver. Even though she’s technically a“friend of the cast”rather than a full-time member—a role she chose specifically to avoid the demanding obligations of being a main housewife—she appears in every single episode. The producers felt she really showed up during production.

The season wrapped, but the cast is still finishing confessionals, which means there’s likely more fallout to come when the episodes air. Carole had a chance to walk away from the chaos, but she came back anyway. Whether that was brave or whether it just handed her accusers more ammunition remains to be seen.
