Danny DeVito Tells All About the Wild 'Taxi' After-Parties of the '80s

Danny DeVito is finally telling stories about his“Taxi”days, and they’re every bit as wild as you’d expect from late-’70s Hollywood. On a recent episode of the“All the Smoke”podcast, the 81-year-old actor recalled the after-parties that followed tapings during the show’s 1978 to 1983 run, complete with music until sunrise, a spread he described as“crudité and cocaine,”and no shortage of famous faces.

The guest list reads like a time capsule of the era. Robin Williams, Michael Jackson and John Belushi all reportedly stopped by at one point or another. As DeVito put it,“basically it was the’80s. It was like, really crazy.”He also shared the one rule that kept it all together: everyone had to be at work Monday at noon. That was the only thing they had to care about.

Of course, the“Taxi”years were more than parties. DeVito played Louie De Palma across five seasons, earning an Emmy and a Golden Globe along the way, and working alongside Judd Hirsch, Marilu Henner, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd and Andy Kaufman.
