Sean“Diddy”Combs is inching closer to freedom, at least on paper. For the second time this year, the music mogul’s prison release date has been accelerated, now set for February 23, 2028—marking another significant shift from his original June 4, 2028 discharge date.

The 56-year-old is currently serving a four-year sentence at Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in southern New Jersey, following his July 2025 conviction on two counts of transportation for prostitution. While he maintains his innocence and continues to appeal the case, prison records viewed by Us Weekly on Monday, June 15 show the latest adjustment. The movement comes as Combs and his legal team work methodically through the appeals process, with his attorney Juda Engelmayer telling the publication that the music mogul has remained“remarkably positive”and“hopeful.”

What’s particularly striking about Combs’situation is his active role in his own defense. Rather than passively waiting out his sentence, he’s become deeply embedded in the appellate work—Engelmayer described him as having“become like a paralegal, if not a lawyer already.”Beyond the legal grind, Combs has carved out a prison routine that keeps him engaged: he works in the library shelving books and helping fellow inmates find reading recommendations, and he’s staying active by playing basketball in the prison yard.

The potential for early release gets even more interesting when you factor in his participation in Fort Dix’s Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP). When he was arrested in September 2024, federal agents discovered ketamine, MDMA, and prescription drugs in his New York City hotel room. Combs admitted in a pre-sentencing letter that he’d“lost his way”in“drugs and excess.”If he successfully completes the RDAP—which addresses substance abuse issues—attorney Scott Rosenblum of Rosenblum, Schwartz&Fry explained to Us that he’s“likely to get a year off his sentence.”That could push his release even further forward.

The road ahead remains uncertain, with the appeal outcome still pending. But for now, Combs’focus is split between fighting his conviction and making the most of his time behind bars. The prison release date adjustments suggest there’s movement in the system, even if the ultimate resolution of his case remains up in the air.
