Flavor Flav's Four-Day Vegas Celebration Proves Female Olympians Deserve the Spotlight

When Flavor Flav decided to throw a four-day celebration for America’s female Olympians and Paralympians, he wasn’t messing around. From July 16-19, Las Vegas became the epicenter of what should’ve been happening all along: real, genuine recognition for women who gave everything to represent our country on the world stage. Free concerts from Public Enemy, performances from Sheila E. and other incredible artists, and free tickets to Backstreet Boys and Ed Sheeran shows. Flav wanted these athletes to know they mattered, and he backed it up with his platform and his resources.

The reason behind the celebration is worth knowing too. Flavor Flav created“SHE Weekend”as a direct response to disparaging remarks made about the US women’s hockey team. In his typical no-holds-barred style, he made it clear these athletes deserved a celebration that would blow the guys’event out of the water. The message was simple: you earned this, you deserve this, and somebody with a platform is going to make sure you get it. It wasn’t just talk either. Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom declared it“Flavor Flav Day”and presented Olympic medalists with keys to the city, making it official.

The athletes themselves showed just how much this meant. Gold medalist figure skater Amber Glenn talked about how critical it is to bring women in sports into the limelight, saying they’d never had an event like this before.
