Over the weekend, a 59-car pileup on Highway 99 in Tulare County turned a typical morning drive into a chaotic scene reminiscent of a disaster movie. The California Highway Patrol reported that around 8:16 a.m., dense fog rolled in, drastically limiting visibility to a mere 100 to 200 feet. As vehicles collided, ten people were rushed to hospitals, thankfully with only minor to moderate injuries.
The pileup stretched from Avenue 24 to just north of Delano, leaving both directions of the highway closed for hours while emergency crews worked to clear the carnage. Responding units included the CHP from Visalia and the Tulare County fire and sheriff’s departments, all of whom have our thanks for their quick action.
Fog may have the charm of a cozy, lazy morning, but this incident serves as a stark reminder: when the weather turns, it’s better to be cautious than to be caught in the fray. After all, nobody wants their morning commute to turn into a twisted Metal version of rush hour!
