Girl Scout cookie season is getting two new additions, and one of them is for the dog. The Girl Scouts of the USA announced this week that Patch Pals, their first-ever cookies made for dogs, will go on sale in January. The blueberry muffin-flavored treats were developed with Bark, a New York-based dog treat company, and they’ll be sold online only.
Joining them is Sparkables, the first allergy-friendly cookie in the organization’s history. Made with Partake Foods in a facility designed to avoid nine major allergens, these are crunchy oatmeal cookies with chocolate chips and sprinkles, and they’re also online-only. The new items serve two groups who’ve watched from the sidelines for years: pet owners who want their dogs in on the fun, and families dealing with food allergies.
The cookie program has funded Girl Scout troops since 1917 and now moves around 200 million boxes a year, so any new product draws attention.
