Hayden Panettiere's Mom Reveals Ultimatum Over 'Toxic' Ex-Boyfriend Before Actress's Death

Hayden Panettiere’s mother, Lesley Vogel, is opening up about the heartbreaking final chapter of her daughter’s life. In a Good Morning America interview, Vogel revealed she gave her daughter an ultimatum about her on-and-off boyfriend Brian Hickerson, telling her she would not speak to her if he remained in her life.“She knew that Brian was toxic,”Vogel said.“She knew she had to get him out of her life.”But despite that awareness, Panettiere continued to reconcile with Hickerson, who was arrested for domestic violence against her in 2018 and 2020.

The 36-year-old actress died on August 16 in South Carolina while traveling with Hickerson. Authorities have mentioned an overdose and cardiac arrest around the time of her death, though Hickerson’s attorney says there are no signs of foul play. Vogel, who described herself as estranged from her daughter, said she flew out to be with Panettiere about a year before her death.
