John Farnham's Son Shares Rare Family Photos and a Father's Day Message That Says It All

James Farnham marked Australian Father’s Day with something better than a card: four rare photos of his dad, John Farnham, and three simple words that carried the whole thing,“I looked up.”The legendary Australian singer has stayed out of the public eye since major surgery to remove a cancerous tumor from his throat in 2022, and he’s since shared that singing on stage isn’t something he can consider again. So a family photo dump from his son lands a whole lot heavier than it would otherwise.

The pictures trace decades of memories, and the message under them was pure and plain. James wrote that his dad has always been someone he looked up to his whole life, and he hopes his own baby son, Jett, feels the same about him one day. That’s the kind of thing that makes you want to hug your own father a little tighter, or at least pick up the phone.

The music world isn’t standing still, either. A tribute concert at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena sold out quickly, a musical built around Farnham’s career premieres November 15th in Sydney, and Sony Music is releasing a 40th anniversary edition of Whispering Jack. Put it all together and you’ve got a voice that can’t perform anymore, and a legacy that refuses to be silenced.
