KJ Biermann, the 15-year-old son of Real Housewives of Atlanta alum Kim Zolciak and former NFL player Kroy Biermann, appeared in Fulton County Superior Court Friday for a bond hearing. He was arrested August 17 and indicted September 3 on seven charges connected to an alleged April 23 assault at a Life Time Fitness gym in Alpharetta, Georgia. He remains at Atlanta’s Metro Regional Youth Detention Center while the judge weighs her decision, which is expected by Monday.

At Friday’s hearing, a statement from his alleged victim, a female classmate, was read aloud in court. In it, she said she is living in fear and scared for her family after receiving threats that KJ would come after her if he were released. Prosecutors also revealed videos found on his cellphone that they say depict penetrative sex with a family member under 12, arguing the alleged assault would be a second serious sexual offense involving female victims. KJ’s attorney, Jason Sheffield, has said his client is“100% innocent,”and Zolciak has called the allegations reckless and deeply troubling. The defense declined to comment on the new allegation raised in court.

The case has drawn national attention because of the family’s fame, but at its center are two young people and a lot of pain. Whatever the judge decides by Monday, this is a story with real families on every side of it, and the consequences will last far beyond the courtroom.

What do you think should carry the most weight in a bond decision like this? Sound off in the comments.
