Lo Bosworth, who country fans will remember from The Hills, shared on Instagram that she underwent inner ear surgery on Wednesday, September 9. She has otosclerosis, a condition where the tiny bones in the inner ear fuse together and gradually cause hearing loss. For Lo, things got significantly worse during her pregnancy with her daughter Nelle, who was born in January. She had already been wearing hearing aids before deciding to move forward with a procedure called a stapedectomy, which involves implanting prosthetic stapes to restore hearing.

The recovery hasn’t been easy. Bosworth described the first 24 hours as rough, dealing with low blood pressure, nausea, and vertigo so intense that closing her eyes made the room spin. She said every time she shut her eyes, the dizziness took over. Still, she remains hopeful the surgery succeeded and is focused on improving her daily life. Her honesty about the difficult parts of recovery is a reminder that these procedures are often underestimated.

Otosclerosis is a common cause of hearing loss, and pregnancy can sometimes accelerate it, something many women don’t learn until they’re in the middle of it. Stories like this one help open the door for conversations about hearing health and the treatment options that exist. Have you or a loved one dealt with hearing loss? What made you finally get it checked?
