A judge granted Maddox Jolie-Pitt’s name change request on Monday, September 14, making him legally Maddox Chivan Jolie. Court documents show no objections were filed, and at 24, he filed the request as an adult.
The move didn’t come out of nowhere. Earlier this year, Maddox had already dropped“Pitt”professionally in the credits of the film Couture, where he worked as an assistant director. He’s the second of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s children to make the change official. Shiloh’s request was granted after she turned 18, and Zahara and Vivienne have petitions still working through the courts.
For plenty of families, a last name is about identity and belonging, not just legal paperwork. When a grown child chooses to set one aside, whether the family is famous or not, it usually reflects years of feelings that don’t show up in a court file.
