The Mercury Prize 2026 shortlist has arrived, and it’s bringing some surprises. Paul McCartney earned his very first nomination at 84 years old for his album“The Boys of Dungeon Lane.”The list also includes past winner Dave, Florence + The Machine, JADE, and the War Child charity compilation“Help(2)”, which is nominated 20 years after the original release.
The winner will be announced on October 22 at Newcastle’s Utilita Arena. Last year Sam Fender took the prize in his hometown. This year’s judging panel includes Sophie Williams, Will Hodgkinson, and Jeff Smith as chair. As always, there are some notable omissions. Harry Styles, Lily Allen, and Charli XCX all missed the cut, with Charli’s album coming out just a few weeks after the eligibility window.
This year’s Mercury shortlist covers a lot of ground from legendary icons to fresh faces and a charity project. Whether you’re a fan of McCartney’s latest work or rooting for an underdog, there’s plenty to talk about as we head toward October. Who do you think should take home the prize? Let us know in the comments.
