Pink Speaks Out After Macklemore Palestine Speech Backlash: "A Repost Isn't a Statement"

Pink has broken her silence after catching heat for sharing a StopAntisemitism post that criticized Macklemore’s onstage call for a free Palestine during an Ed Sheeran tour stop in New Jersey. In a statement posted Friday, September 11, Pink explained that she didn’t write the words she reposted, that she was born Jewish, and that she has never claimed to speak for Israel or any government. She also made clear she still considers Hamas a terrorist organization, a point she wanted no confusion about.

What Pink says she did not do is call for Macklemore to be silenced or removed from the tour, even though the Israeli-American Council pushed for exactly that. She described being scared as a Jewish mother by his stadium speech and the images that came with it, saying it frightened her and the people she loves. Macklemore, for his part, held his ground, saying the push for dignity, respect, and equality for all should never be controversial.
