Queen's 1986 Budapest Concert Restored in 4K: See It in Theaters This October

Forty years ago this July, Queen made history by becoming the first Western rock band to play an arena show behind the Iron Curtain in Budapest, Hungary. The concert on July 27, 1986, is now legendary, not just for its political significance but because it captured one of Freddie Mercury’s final live performances. The band went the extra mile by learning a Hungarian folk song,“Tavaszi szél vizet áraszt,”and performing it for a crowd that responded with tears, cheers, and a singalong nobody in the room will ever forget.

Now, thanks to a remarkable 4K restoration by Peter Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team, that concert is coming back to life. The restored film will hit theaters and IMAX screens on October 7, 2026. If you prefer to enjoy it at home, you can grab it on October 30 as a 3LP vinyl set, 2CD, DVD, Blu-Ray, or digital download. Brian May called it an event that will never happen again, and Roger Taylor said the audience’s singing showed them that music really can be a great cause.
