Rebecca Gayheart is asking people to help turn her late husband’s fight into funding. In an Instagram post Friday, she urged her followers to sign the I Am ALS petition supporting the ACT for ALS Bill, which could provide $500 million for ALS research and treatment access. The petition drive ends Sunday.
Eric Dane, the actor best known for his roles on television and in film, died in February at 53 after a one-year battle with ALS. The couple married in 2004 and separated in 2018, but when his diagnosis came in 2025, Gayheart withdrew her divorce petition and stood by his side through the illness. In her post she wrote,“Please help us make sure that Congress does not continue to delay the passing of this bill,”and added that getting it passed“would mean the world to my family.”
ALS, also called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is progressive and currently has no cure. That means research funding isn’t abstract. It’s time for families who often get too little of it. If you want to help, look up the I Am ALS petition and share it with somebody before the Sunday deadline.
