Rick Springfield Reveals He Killed a Man During His 1968 Vietnam Tour

Rick Springfield has spent most of his career known for“Jessie’s Girl”and a long run on daytime television. But a recent appearance on the“Joe Rogan Experience”podcast revealed a much heavier chapter of his life. Springfield told Rogan that in 1968, while touring Vietnam with his band to entertain American troops, he helped fire mortars during an attack on the base where he was staying overnight. The next morning, soldiers told him his round had killed an enemy fighter.

The tour lasted about four months, and Springfield says the pay was modest, but the troops were just glad to see performers who reminded them of home. What none of them expected was that a young musician would end up in a firefight of his own. In the interview, Springfield described the lasting weight of that night, saying it’s hard to face being responsible for the end of a life, even at a distance, even in war. The memory, he says, still haunts him.
