When you’re in the spotlight, privacy feels like a luxury you can’t afford. That’s the tension Taylor Frankie Paul is wrestling with after voluntarily checking into a rehab facility in late June—a decision she felt entitled to keep private, but one the public found out about anyway.

The 32-year-old Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star opened up about her stay via Instagram Stories on Sunday, July 5, making clear she wasn’t there to“clear up any rumors,”but rather to be honest about her mental health journey, something she’s always tried to be transparent about. According to Paul, the decision to seek help came from recognizing she needed a“reset.”She emphasized that rehab facilities aren’t exclusively for substance issues—there’s a whole spectrum of reasons people check in, and her priority was mental health decompression and getting away to recalibrate, whether that meant one day, seven days, or thirty.

What stung more than the stay itself was the weaponization of seeking help. Paul expressed frustration that doing the right thing—acknowledging she needed extra support—became something people used against her. During her time at the facility, she found an antidepressant that’s been working for her, though she’s holding off on naming specifics until she’s fully trialed it and can confidently recommend it to others. That kind of thoughtfulness speaks volumes about where her head’s at right now.

The timing here matters. Paul’s rehab stint lands in the middle of an ugly custody battle with ex Dakota Mortensen over their 2-year-old son, Ever. In March, Hulu halted production on season 5 of Mormon Wives after domestic assault allegations surfaced from a February incident, though prosecutors declined to press charges. A judge eventually granted Mortensen temporary custody and a protective order, though Paul won her own protective order against him. By June, a judge lifted her supervised visitation restrictions, allowing her alternative weekends and one midweek day with Ever. She and Mortensen are scheduled to be back in court on Wednesday, July 8.

Adding another layer to the chaos: her ex Tate Paul filed for a temporary restraining order in late June and is seeking custody of their older kids, Indy, 8, and Ocean, 6. That restraining order request was denied, though he’s asked the court to reconsider.

Paul’s message is simple but important: there’s nothing shameful about noticing you need extra support and reaching out. In a world where her personal struggles have become public fodder and legal weaponry, that stance takes real courage.
