"The Matrix" Director Says Hollywood Won't Fund His New Film Because of Its All-Trans Cast

His new political thriller,“The Hunted,”a dystopian story about two trans women going after a government official, has a script, a producer in Natasha Lyonne, and a modest $10 million budget. What it doesn’t have is a green light from any studio. Wachowski says the reason is simple: the cast is entirely transgender.

During a live script reading last week, Wachowski told the audience that people in the industry like the project, but they won’t commit to making it. He calls the film a cathartic outlet for his“trans rage,”and it’s clear this is personal for him.
