U2 has been named the 2027 MusiCares Persons of the Year, and this one is about more than music. The Recording Academy’s charity chose Bono, the Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. for their decades of commitment to global health, disaster response, addiction recovery, mental health, and music education. Since 1991, the Persons of the Year gala has raised millions for musicians and industry workers facing hard times, and U2 now joins a list of honorees that includes Dolly Parton, Joni Mitchell, Mariah Carey, and Fleetwood Mac.
The 36th annual gala is set for Friday, February 5th, 2027, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, landing right in the middle of Grammy Weekend. A tribute concert celebrating the band’s catalog is part of the tradition, with performers to be announced later. U2 said they’re huge fans of MusiCares and the lifelines the organization provides, adding that they’re excited to be in the front row of their first-ever U2 gig, where they know they’ll be outplayed.
The band hasn’t slowed down either. They released the single“Street of Dreams”back in July and recently collaborated with Martin Garrix.
