Storms can be harsh, especially for wildlife, but they can also stir up new beginnings. That’s exactly what happened at Lake Natoma when bad weather knocked down the beloved bald eagle nest of a pair named Mama and Papa. Since their arrival in 2017, they’ve hatched an impressive 21 eaglets, and after a brief setback, they’re back on course with a new nest.
Located just a thousand feet away from their former home, this new nesting spot was built in a swift three and a half weeks! Wildlife expert Kathy Kayner shared that Mama has already laid one egg, possibly two, while Papa has also taken his turn keeping watch over the little ones-to-be. The anticipation of waiting to see these eggs hatch—not to mention the speed with which eaglets grow—has everyone buzzing with excitement.
This pair of resilient eagles demonstrates stunning adaptability, reminding us that life often provides a second chance. So here’s to Mama and Papa as they embark on yet another journey of parenthood. After all, nothing says “I can weather the storm” like a determined eagle making a comeback!
