At this year’s San Joaquin County education summit, the spotlight was on the bright futures of local students. The San Joaquin County Office of Education hosted the second annual State of Education event at Franklin High School in Stockton, bringing together community leaders, educators, and students to celebrate the amazing opportunities available in public education.

As attendees strolled through the event, they encountered various booths featuring displays and demonstrations in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—collectively known as STEAM. This year’s theme,“Education For All: Full STEAM ahead,”resonated as a reminder of the importance of accessible educational programs for every child in the area.

Dr. Troy Brown, the San Joaquin County Superintendent of Schools, passionately expressed the need for local STEAM opportunities, emphasizing that students should have access to the same innovations typically found in places like the Bay Area. Students like Escalon High School’s Brenden Berchtold stepped into the limelight, sharing their experiences and showcasing how enriching their education can be. The smiles were undeniable, proving that there’s indeed a lot of good happening in public education. Who knew inspiration could be this contagious?
