Sometimes the toughest obstacles aren’t on stage—they’re inside your body. Country legend Clint Black learned that lesson the hard way this week when a medical emergency sidelined him just days before a scheduled performance.
Black was hospitalized on Sunday, June 28, with infected tonsils that required emergency intravenous antibiotic treatment. The diagnosis forced him to cancel his Friday night show at the Pearl River Resort in Choctaw, Miss., but the 64-year-old artist reassured fans that he’s on the mend and expected to be discharged later in the week. All tickets will be fully refunded from the original point of purchase.
For a touring musician, cancellations are never welcome—they disrupt not just the artist’s schedule but the entire ecosystem around a show: crew, venue staff, and most importantly, fans who’ve blocked off their calendar. But sometimes your body makes the call for you. Black’s Back on the Blacktop tour has plenty of runway ahead, with The Carson Valley Inn — TJ’s Corral Outdoor Event Center in Minden, Nev. on July 9 as the next stop, followed by dates through November 14 at L’Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, La. He’s also slotted to perform with Cody Johnson on his tour and has lined up eight shows with Midland across North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, Alabama, and Virginia in October.
The timing is particularly poignant given that Black just released his memoir, Killin’Time: My Life and Music, in May. In the book, the Hey Good Lookin’singer recounts his journey from struggling songwriter to chart-topping superstar, chronicling a life marked by perseverance through“hurdle after hurdle, injury after injury, surgery after surgery.”That resilience has carried him through four decades in the music business—and it’ll carry him through this setback too. For now, rest is the prescription, and his fans will be waiting when he’s ready to take the stage again.
